Terms of use

Plain terms for a free tool with no accounts. Using the site means accepting what follows.

Last updated July 2026

ShinyPapers is a free, independent study aid provided as-is. It is not affiliated with Cambridge Assessment International Education, and its difficulty ratings are an interpretation of published data, not official guidance.

What you are getting

Access to an index of Cambridge past papers with a computed difficulty rating for each, free of charge, with no account and no paywall. There is no subscription, no trial, and no feature reserved for paying users.

Because it is free and account-free, there is no contract for a service level. The site may be unavailable, papers may be missing, and features may change or be removed without notice.

The ratings are an interpretation

Difficulty scores are calculated by ShinyPapers from grade boundaries that Cambridge publishes. They are not produced, reviewed or endorsed by Cambridge. The methodology page sets out how they are derived and where they are weak.

Specifically, do not rely on ShinyPapers as:

  • A prediction of your grade, or of what will appear on a future paper.
  • A statement that a paper will be hard or easy for you personally — a score describes how a past cohort performed.
  • An authoritative record of grade boundaries. Boundaries are parsed automatically from hundreds of PDFs and may contain errors. Check the official Cambridge threshold document for anything that matters.
  • Advice on which papers to sit, which subjects to take, or how to prepare for an exam.

Copyright in exam materials

Question papers, mark schemes and grade threshold documents are the copyright of Cambridge Assessment International Education. ShinyPapers does not own them, does not host them, and does not reproduce their content.

Papers and mark schemes are linked to PapaCambridge, a third-party repository, and open on their servers. What ShinyPapers stores is factual metadata: syllabus codes, component numbers, sessions, maximum marks and grade boundary figures, together with the ratings computed from them.

If you hold rights in this material and consider something here to be infringing, it will be removed on request.

Acceptable use

  • Use the site for your own study, teaching, or research.
  • Do not scrape it at a rate that degrades it for other people. The underlying data comes from public sources you can go to directly.
  • Do not attempt to break, overload, or gain unauthorised access to the site or its data pipeline.
  • Do not present ShinyPapers’s ratings as official Cambridge material, or imply Cambridge endorsement.

Your data

Your practice history is stored in your browser, not on a server, so it is yours to keep or delete. ShinyPapers takes no responsibility for its loss — clearing site data, switching browser or using a different device will lose it, and there is no server-side copy to restore from. Export a backup from settings if it matters to you. See Privacy for the detail.

No warranty, and limits on liability

The site is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including as to accuracy, availability or fitness for a particular purpose.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, ShinyPapers and its maintainers accept no liability for loss or damage arising from use of the site — including exam outcomes, decisions made on the basis of a difficulty rating, or loss of locally stored data. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated as the site changes. Continuing to use ShinyPapers after a change means accepting the revised version; the date at the top shows when it was last revised.
